About Us
Built on a Nurse's Understanding of Patient Care.
Founded in Dallas in 1989 by Sylvia Peppard, R.N.
Medical Connections was founded in Dallas in 1989 by Sylvia Peppard, R.N., with an understanding that came directly from healthcare: when a patient reaches out for help, the way that call is handled matters.
She believed healthcare organizations deserved more than a traditional answering service. They needed people who understood the responsibility of communicating with patients, accurately following a provider’s instructions and making sure important information reached the right person.
That belief became Medical Connections.
Her standard was simple: “Second to none.”
More than 35 years later, that standard continues to guide the company she started.
From One Generation to the Next
Today, Medical Connections remains independently owned and operated under second-generation leadership.
Growing up around both healthcare and the business his mother founded, William F. “Billy” Peppard developed an early understanding of the responsibility involved in serving healthcare organizations and their patients.
Today, as Owner & President, Billy continues to build on the foundation established by Sylvia—embracing new technology and evolving client needs while preserving the personal accountability and commitment to service that have defined Medical Connections since 1989.
Over the years, Medical Connections has grown from a traditional medical answering service into a modern healthcare answering and contact center supporting organizations ranging from independent physician practices to large, complex healthcare systems.
But growth hasn’t changed who we are.
We’re still close enough to our clients to know them, understand how they operate and care personally about the service we provide.
The Technology Changed. The Commitment Didn't.
Healthcare communication has changed dramatically since 1989.
Pagers and traditional telephone lines gave way to mobile devices, digital telecommunications, secure messaging and increasingly sophisticated communication systems.
Medical Connections evolved with it.
Today, advanced telecommunications, redundant infrastructure, secure messaging and customized call-handling technology operate behind the scenes of our service.
But none of those things changed the fundamental responsibility Sylvia recognized when she started the company:
Someone is depending on us to get the call right.
Technology supports our people in delivering the service securely, efficiently and reliably. The responsibility for the patient experience remains human.
Healthcare Then. Healthcare Now. Healthcare Always.
For more than 35 years, Medical Connections has made a deliberate choice to remain focused on healthcare.
We understand the different demands of physician practices, hospitals and health systems, home health and hospice agencies, infusion and respiratory providers and other healthcare organizations because those are the organizations we’ve built our company around.
Healthcare isn’t something we added along the way.
It’s where we started.
Medical Connections Today
Today, MCI combines more than three decades of healthcare communication experience with the technology required to serve modern healthcare organizations.
24/7/365 Operations • HIPAA/HITECH-Compliant Communication • Secure Messaging • Redundant Infrastructure • 99.99% Uptime • Customized Solutions
But the philosophy behind all of it remains remarkably simple:
Hire good people. Give them good tools. Teach them why the call matters. And take responsibility for the service you provide.
Still Personal. Still Independent. Still Healthcare.
More than 35 years after Sylvia Peppard founded Medical Connections, we’re proud of where we came from—and equally excited about where healthcare communication is going.
We’ll continue investing in technology, evolving our services and adapting to the changing needs of our clients.
But some things don’t need to change.
The commitment to our clients.
The responsibility to their patients.
And the belief that the people behind the service make the difference.
That’s the company Sylvia started in 1989.
That’s Medical Connections today.
